Show #60: Less Talk & More Rock

logo

You know what, Earth? I got to thinking. About life, music, and the pursuit of rockiness. I decided that sometimes, you’ve got to listen to music a little bit differently. So this week, we dropped the singers and went instrumental. Oh yeah. Too many genres have awesome instrumental bands, so I focused solely on one genre: Post-Rock. Turns out, even without a singer, you can rock out pretty heavy. Don’t believe me? Click that link below and crank up the old speaks. I prove my point. Well, technically I will prove my point after you listen to the show.

Show #56: Alone Again Or

logo

After some jamming out to Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska this week, I thought I’d focus on the stripped-down basics of music. If you remove all the complexities and over production, you get to the core of the tuneskies. Just a musician and their instrument, nothing else. Only then can you really hear what makes a song great, with the emotion and honesty that a great musician can communicate. So let’s mellow out for the next hour and listen to some great musicians delivering killer jams in their rawest form.

Show #55: Big Sellers

logo

In honor of the spending season I thought I’d take a gander at some of the best selling albums of all time. To my surprise, they weren’t all terrible Top 40 Pop albums (though many were). So jam out to the very diverse playlist as we count up from 25 million copy sellers all the way up to the second highest selling album of all time with 45 million copies. I’m no math whiz, but if my calculations are correct, 45 million is a lot.

Show #49: Down On The Street

logo

I don’t know why, but randomly this week I decided there are a lot of street songs out there. Songs about streets, with the word “street” in the title, or just mentioning “street” with no real connection. It sounded random and pointless, so naturally I put a playlist together. After test jamming out to the playlist, I decided as random and pointless as it was, it was still pretty awesome. These street songs lend to some pretty epic jamming, so give this bad mamajama a listen for yourself.

Show #48: Old Dudes Party Too

logo

The new Pearl Jam album got me thinking about old dudes and how sometimes they keep partying into their elder years. Look at the Stones. They look like they should be in nursing homes…yet they party harder than all those young whipper snappers out there. These aren’t necessarily comeback albums, just recent (within the last decade) releases coming from bands that emerged many years before. Some are awesome and some are just an excuse to go out and party. Man,  you just can’t tame these old dudes (example: Keith Richards).

Show #37: Summertime Blues

logo

I tried to keep things simple today: It’s summer, let’s jam. Some summer tunes seemed fitting, others seemed a little wild. I tried to get the widest array of genres and mix the order up as much as possible. Mixing things up, that’s how we do it around TRR headquarters (my computer).

Show #35: Just A Couple Of Bros

logo

The show started out with Simon and Garfunkel, which really got me thinking about bromances in music. Soon enough, a rockin’ playlist ensued. I’m sorry, I had to skip Hall and Oats, but just remember that radtacular mustache and you’ll be good.

Show #33: Happy Birthday USA

logo

As any patriotic, burger eating, truck driving, beer drinking American, I get excited about the July 4th Bday bash. So I put together a little playlists honoring the planet’s favorite country ever (right?) and am feeling pretty proud to be from the great US and A. We had songs about America, some Americana and Heartland tunes, and even had the Star Spangled Banner. Just make sure you take off your hats when that plays, come on now, show some respect.

Show #27: Girl Power

logo

Keeping up with the theme this week was an estrogen-filled show that still rocked loud and proud. We kicked it off with all female bands, then female included duos, and finally female bandleaders. The criteria for the playlist was for current music only and no solo musicians or singer/songwriters. Came out pretty bitchin’ I must say, especially hearing The Loudest Chicks In Rock. Let the record show I’m kinda scared of those chicks.

Show #17: The Quiet Beatle

logo

How has TRR gone this long without rocking to any Beatles? That right there is what they call failing. Well it’s time to turn things around, because today is all about The Beatles. Well, one Beatle in particular: The Quiet Beatle.

George Harrison was anything but quiet, which you’ll notice after hearing his killer Beatles tunes. Lennon and McCartney usually allowed him an average of one or two songs per album, and he sure didn’t disappoint. I think some of the best Beatles songs were Harrison songs, but hey, you tell me what you think, because thinking thoughts is a good thing (or so I’ve been told anyway).
