Show #59: The Best Of 2013 (Part 2)

logo

Well I’ll be Earth, it’s been awhile. After a little hiatus, TRR is up and rocking again, though a little more on the DL. That’s ‘down low’ if you’re not into the whole acronym thing. Anyway, I’m now rocking the show on a non-weekly basis, so my times will be a’changing, but I’m aiming to broadcast a show once a month for the time being. Who knows, maybe I’ll rev the party train back up in the near future. Either way, it’s jam time, and we’re picking up right where we left off. Here are the very best albums of 2013, and boy were they awesome.  (more…)

Show #58: The Best Of 2013 (Part 1)

logo

It’s time to jam out to the best tuneskies of 2013. I’ll go through all the lists I posted yesterday and begin to tackle the top 13 albums of 2013. We’ll finish it up on the next show, but we’ve got some good tunes going down right about now. Well, click the link to make the tunes start right now.

Show #57: Slowhand

logo

Some people need no introduction, and that includes Eric Clapton, the man known as “slowhand.” Everyone talks about his mad guitar skills, but few realize that he’s been shredding his ax in more bands than anyone else. Maybe that’s why he’s the only dude to ever win three inductions into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Three times a charm or whatever they say. So sit back, relax, and listen to slowhand evolve through the ages of Rock awesomeness.

Show #56: Alone Again Or

logo

After some jamming out to Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska this week, I thought I’d focus on the stripped-down basics of music. If you remove all the complexities and over production, you get to the core of the tuneskies. Just a musician and their instrument, nothing else. Only then can you really hear what makes a song great, with the emotion and honesty that a great musician can communicate. So let’s mellow out for the next hour and listen to some great musicians delivering killer jams in their rawest form.

Show #55: Big Sellers

logo

In honor of the spending season I thought I’d take a gander at some of the best selling albums of all time. To my surprise, they weren’t all terrible Top 40 Pop albums (though many were). So jam out to the very diverse playlist as we count up from 25 million copy sellers all the way up to the second highest selling album of all time with 45 million copies. I’m no math whiz, but if my calculations are correct, 45 million is a lot.

Show #54: Kicking It At The Shack

logo

Today we had a little chat with Sugar Shack Records owner and operator Gary Feest, who’s been running the iconic Madison, Wisconsin record store for 32 years. Dude parties so hard that he makes those UW college kids look like they belong in a nursing home. He jams to his tunes so loud that he makes the Rolling Stones sound like a bunch of librarians. Yep. These are facts. So tune in and listen about his killer biker gang, his thoughts on reading books, and of course lots of music talk too.

The Bossman Playlist

bossman

In preparation for our interview with Sugar Shack bossman Gary Feest tomorrow, I thought I’d drop some jams from the Shack. I had asked Gary (the boss) to send in some jams to supplement the interview on the show. He dropped 33 badass jams (minus Seal), and I quickly realized that an hour is only 60 minutes. I’m smart. We only will have room for a few on the show, but the jams will not go unheard. Instead, all you have to do is scroll down, click on the videos, and jam out like a boss. Now that’s what it’s like being the bossman. Me likie.

Show #53: Let’s Get Funky

logo

It’s that time Earth. The time where we break it down and groove like crazy to some killer Funk. I expect to see some killer dance moves being busted out in the most random of places (a Perkins, a mountaintop, the DMV, a Kansas farm, the Hubble Telescope, and/or  the set of Judge Judy). If I don’t see any dancing on the next Judge Judy, I’m going to be a wee bit disappointed. So crank these tunes, get your funky moves going, and don’t be embarrassed, because most of us really can’t dance no matter how hard we try. It’s okay, I can’t dance either, but I really don’t give a funk.

PS: Remember Soul Train? That show was so awesome it was messed up.

Show #52: Magic Hat

logo

Woo-ee, I tell you what Earth. The Mixed Brew today sure was one crazy mix. It was all over the place, yet somehow magically tied together in an epically awesome way. We have Magic Hat brewskies to thank for that, the inspiration behind this mixed brew. See, magic does happen when you drink beer, not just bad decisions, foggy memories, and injuries.

Show #51: Monster Fuzz

logo

One year. Yep. TRR has been rocking for one year, with our debut show Guitar Gods hitting the airwaves on 11/07/12. You know what they say: time flies when you’re rocking out like a boss. Something like that anyway. Well it’s been fun jamming out with you planet earth, so thanks for sticking with TRR and making great music possible. Okay, I’ll stop getting all gushy on you, let’s get to it. Today’s jam is a fresh spin of new tunes, but lesser known and louder than our usual new Indie Rock fare. Are you prepared? Please crank up those speakers right about…now.
